One of our dear members, Carmen Stark, will be hosting this public presentation as part of her volunteer fieldwork with the local non-profit group, Gallatin Refugee Connections. This presentation is in partial fulfillment of a Teacher Education course that she is currently taking through MSU about supporting and educating refugees. Some of the themes that we will be discussing will include:
--Fostering welcoming and open relationships with refugees through interaction with our local community.
--Developing intercultural competence and cultural humility within our community in order to understand and respect cultural differences.
--Developing an understanding and appreciation of the many assets that refugees, migrants and asylum-seekers bring to our local community and school settings.
Gallatin Refugee Connection's mission is to "create and sustain a welcoming environment for refugees" and this presentation is intended to raise awareness of the global refugee crisis and explore how Montanans can help this cause. For more information on the organization and how you can help, please visit their website or like their Facebook Page.
